Driver - Leadership
- I have assumed a few different leadership positions within the WPHS community. I am one of the two advisors for student government association (SGA). I have been a leader of this organization for the past two years. Mrs. Ramsey and I inherited the group last year and it was almost nonexistent. There was very little student involvement and their were no activities or fundraisers to be passed down. We had to start from scratch. We ran a supply drive for Sally Kate Winters (a group that gives supplies to children in between foster homes or children who are homeless). We also took the students to the state student council conference the past two years. The first was in Starkville and this year’s was held in Biloxi.
-I also was an advisor of National Honors Society last year. I was one of four advisors and really enjoyed my time with NHS. This organization was huge in comparison to SGA. There were over 100 members and they planned multiple fundraisers, trips and community service activities every year. I was able to travel to Chicago with the group to attend a student leadership conference. We took the officers and all four advisors and the students had a blast! They learned tons of things to bring back to our school and some personal lessons to help them be better leaders.
- I’ve been able to be a chaperone for multiple field trips as well. I was asked to help out when the seniors went on a trip to the University of Southern Mississippi. We accompanied the students to Hattiesburg for the college visit. I also took a trip with Ms. Ingram taking her top 40 students to a food conference put on by the Food Corps organization in Mississippi. This was a conference where the students could pick which talks to attend. They saw a butcher selecting meats, a woman who dries all of her vegetables, farm within rural communities and many more. It was a great trip where the students experienced things they never had before.
